          Job Description: Territory Sales Rep, Inside/Outside Turf Sales

Gertens Wholesale and Professional Turf, the leading supplier to golf course superintendents, sports turf managers, park supervisors, lawn care operators and arborists is looking for a Landscape Turf Inside Sales Representative to grow and expand the business. This ideal candidate will have a background in commercial turf and landscape sales.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build positive relationships with customers providing excellent customer service through greeting, reporting, and follow-up, regularly.

JOB TITLE:   Parks Maintenance Supervisor - City of Eagan

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation
 
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Parks
 
POSITION SUMMARY: 
Oversee maintenance of city parks, park amenities and maintenance equipment ensuring the optimization of city resources. Direct and coordinate activities of full-time and seasonal park maintenance employees.  Coordinate maintenance assistance and scheduling in conjunction with Park Operations Supervisor, City Forester, Recreation Division and other city departments. 

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Supervise Park Maintenance staff including daily scheduling of tasks and equipment and inspection of work performed and consulting with employees.
  • Develop short and long-term work plans, set priorities, and provide technical expertise to park operations to obtain efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Inspect parks and park projects daily.  Coordinate appropriate action as needed.
  • Assists the Operations and Forestry Divisions and other city departments through the coordination and scheduling of maintenance personnel and equipment and the mutual sharing of resources as necessary and apparent.
  • Meets with the park staff on a frequent basis to inform them of weekly maintenance plans, priority projects and work coordination.
  • Hires 25 – 30 seasonal employees, conducts and ensures the effective training of all new and current employees in work technique, quality expectation, effectiveness, safety, customer service, and city policy.
  • Develop and oversee an efficient system for the inventory of parks and supplies used in the daily maintenance of parks and equipment.  Assist with the acquisition of equipment.
  • Assist Superintendent in preparation of the annual parks maintenance budget, research needs, review costs and prepare support documentation.
  • Respond directly to public inquiries and complaints.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4 year degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Park and Recreation Management, Building and Grounds Management, Park Administration, Turf and/or Horticulture or Natural Resource Management, or closely related field
  • 3 years of supervisory experience in Park Maintenance or a related field; or equivalent work experience in a position that provides work direction, training, and leadership to seasonal and/or full time maintenance employees in a local government setting
  • A valid Class B driver’s license with tank/tanker endorsements and no airbrake restriction, upon application
  • 8 years of work experience in Park Maintenance; or the equivalent combination of a 4 year degree in a related field with work experience in Park Maintenance or a related field
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with employees, public officials and the general public.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a similar work environment
  • Experience in the Public Sector
  • Experience dealing with the customers, public, user groups, and staff to resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and efficient use of available resources.

 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Approximately 50% of the position time is in an indoor office setting and 50% of the time is in an outdoor setting in a variety of weather conditions including rain, snow, extreme heat, and cold.
            
WORK SCHEDULE:
The position is expected to be on-call on a 24/7 basis and respond promptly and appropriately to weather emergencies, police calls, security system pages, and other unscheduled circumstances or events. Full time, salaried, benefit eligible, 40 hour base, FLSA exempt position, M-F, 7am to 3:30pm.

 

RATE OF PAY: Starts $82,957 - $93,368 annually, DOQ

Summary 

Perform all park maintenance functions necessary to ensure clean, safe, high quality recreational facilities available for public use. 
Park and Forestry mission critical/high impact areas of maintenance responsibilities are athletic fields, park buildings, courts, forestry,

The National Sports Center (NSC) is a 600 acre multi-sport complex located in Blaine, MN.  It includes a sports stadium, over 50 full-sized soccer fields, Victory Links Golf Course, a velodrome, a meeting and convention facility, and an eight-sheet ice rink, the Schwan Super Rink, which is the largest ice arena in the world.  The National Sports Center has hosted numerous National and World Championship events in soccer, hockey, figure skating, short track speed skating, broomball, rugby, ultimate and lacrosse.  The facility welcomes over 3.8 million visitors annually, making it the most-visited sports facility in the state of Minnesota.  Each July, the National Sports Center plays host to Schwan's USA CUP, the largest soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere.

Position Objective:  To perform manual and semi-skilled maintenance work in the operation of light or medium weight trucks and other equipment and performs labor related tasks as required to maintain the city’s parks, facilities and streets.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Performs general maintenance to city facilities, playground equipment, bleachers, fences, backstops and ice rinks such as painting, cleaning, minor repairs.  Operates and maintains such equipment as (but not limited to) front end loaders, tractors, and self-propelled mowers and sweepers, dump trucks, litter picker, push mowers, weed whips, tree spade, snow plows and push-type rototillers.  Performs landscape functions such as hand digging, planting, tree trimming, sodding, fertilizing, spraying, and mowing turf areas.  Maintenance and installation of irrigation systems.  Removal of litter and trash in city parks and facilities.  Grooming, layout and striping of athletic fields.  Tree and shrub pruning and removal.  Sets up and takes down hockey rink boards.  Performs minor plumbing, carpentry, welding, concrete masonry, and electrical work.  Performs snowplowing and shoveling.  Works as member of team to provide safe and efficient operation of all park facilities.  May assist with City forestry-related projects, resident inquiries and programs.  Performs preventative maintenance and service work on equipment.    Perform pre-trip vehicle inspection as per CDL requirements.  Contacts vendors or purchase needed supplies or equipment as requested by supervisor.  Performs work within OSHA regulations, city safety procedures and Employee Right-to-Know law regulations.  Keeps accurate records as needed.  Uses common hand tools such as chain saws, handsaws, etc. with reasonable degree of skill and operates a variety of city equipment with proficiency.  Performs duties on weekends, holidays and evenings as assigned.  Available to work on call as emergency or need arises.  Works in cooperation with and assists other departments as needed.  Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements:  High school degree or equivalent. Valid MN Commercial Vehicle Driver’s License. Must obtain tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction within 6 months of hire.  Ability to lift 50 pounds and to perform all of the physical requirements of the position.

Desirable Training and Experience:  Two years of experience in related municipal work, including park and horticulture. Two years of experience in dump truck operation.  Two years of experience in light equipment operation.  Experience in building trades (carpentry, HVAV, electrical, plumbing).  Experience in irrigation installation, maintenance and repairs.  Experience in turf management and athletic field maintenance.  Completion of a technical school program for landscaping, ground maintenance, carpentry, electrical or mechanics.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Minnesota Turf and Grounds Foundation is to promote the green industry in Minnesota through support of research, education and outreach at the University of Minnesota and elsewhere. The MTGF pursues its mission in various ways. One of these is an annual "Call For Proposals," titled the "MTGF Research Gift Program," whereby researchers, instructors and outreach faculty and staff involved in turf and grounds work may submit requests for unrestricted gifts to support their activities. As a 501(c)(3) corporation, funding approved by the MTGF will not be subjected to overhead or other indirect charges or costs. The dates for submission, review and approval may change on an annual basis as well as the protocol stipulated for the submission of gift requests.
